About Sunny Sill
A small set of free tools for people who keep plants indoors and would like them to stay alive.
What the tools do
- The watering schedule turns your plant list into a weekly calendar of soil checks, adjusted for pot size, pot material, light and season, with a calendar file to download.
- The pot size calculator suggests the next pot and works out how much potting mix you need.
- The light guide estimates how bright a spot is, or reads a light meter value, and lists plants that suit it.
- The repotting reminder plans each plant's next repotting from its growth rate.
- The care cards print a one-card summary for each plant.
Where the numbers come from
Care facts, light levels and repotting advice come from university extension services (University of Illinois, Iowa State, Clemson, Mississippi State, NC State, University of Missouri and the University of Florida's IFAS). Pet safety follows the ASPCA's toxic and non-toxic plant lists. Each page lists its sources and links to them.
Some numbers are our own estimates, and the pages say so: how much a terracotta pot or a dim corner changes the watering interval, and how quickly light fades away from a window. They are starting points to check against the plant itself, which is why the watering calendar marks days to check the soil rather than days to water.
How it works
Everything is calculated in your browser. Your plant lists and settings are kept in your browser's local storage on this device and are never uploaded. There are no accounts and no cookies. The site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views without cookies or cross-site tracking; it never receives what you type into the tools. The privacy page has the details.
Sunny Sill is not a shop and does not sell plants or products. It is not veterinary or professional horticultural advice: if a pet eats a plant, call your vet or an animal poison line.
