# Printable plant care cards

Tick your plants, add a note if you like, and print a care card for each: how dry to let it get, the light it wants, humidity, repotting and whether it is safe around cats and dogs.

### Golden pothos

Epipremnum aureum

Trails or climbs. Pinch the stem tips to keep it bushy; small, pale new leaves usually mean too little light.

### Snake plant

Dracaena trifasciata (Sansevieria)

Water around the leaves, not into the centre. Soft, mushy leaf bases usually mean too much water, often in winter.

### Peace lily

Spathiphyllum species

Droops when dry and recovers within hours of a drink, but don't wait for the droop every time.

Droops when thirsty

### Spider plant

Chlorophytum comosum

Pot up the baby plants on its runners: they root easily in water or moist compost.

## How to make and print the cards

1. Tick plants in the list; search narrows it by common or botanical name. *Add the plants from my watering schedule* copies the plants you saved there, with their nicknames as notes.
2. Type a short note for any card, such as where the plant lives or when you bought it.
3. Pick A4 or US Letter, four, six or eight cards to a page and the lines to show, then press *Print cards*.

### What is on a card

**Water** gives how dry the mix should get before watering and a typical check interval for a 15 cm (6 in) plastic pot in the plant's favourite light; your own pot and room change it, so the watering schedule on our home page works it out for each plant. **Light** shows the range the plant copes with and its best spot. **Repot** follows the plant's growth rate. **Pets** comes from the ASPCA's toxic and non-toxic plant lists, or NC State Extension where the ASPCA does not list the plant.

### Printing tips

In the print dialog set the scale to 100% (or "Actual size") and turn headers and footers off. Each page keeps a 10 mm border, which most printers can manage. Four cards on A4 come out at 95 × 138 mm each, eight at 95 × 69 mm; cut along the dashed lines. Card stock lasts longer than paper, and a plastic sleeve keeps a card dry next to the watering can.

## Questions

**Why are my printed cards the wrong size?**

The print dialog is probably scaling the page. Choose 100% or "Actual size" instead of "Fit to page", pick the same paper size as on this page, and turn off headers and footers. Then the cards come out at the sizes given above.

**Can I change the care text on a card?**

The care lines come from our plant list, so they stay consistent. Each card has room for a short note of your own, up to 60 characters, which is a good place for the spot, the date you bought it or a reminder such as "rainwater only".

**How is the check interval on a card worked out?**

For a 15 cm (6 in) plastic pot in the plant's favourite light, in spring and in winter, using the same estimates as the watering schedule. A smaller pot, an unglazed terracotta pot or a sunnier spot shortens it. The interval is a reminder to feel the soil, not to water.

**Is the pet safety line veterinary advice?**

No. It repeats how the ASPCA lists the plant for cats and dogs, so you can keep toxic plants out of reach. Non-toxic plants can still upset a pet's stomach. If a pet chews a plant and seems unwell, call your vet or an animal poison control line.

**Is my plant missing from the list?**

The list covers about fifty common houseplants with sourced care details. For anything else, the watering schedule accepts any plant under Other plant, where you choose its watering style yourself.
